500 magnum trouble starting & running
hey ive just brought a 02 magnum 500hds.
ive installed a new battery into it, turn the key and takes a bit to start. ive found by placing my hand over the carb it starts, idles like the tiimings out and then dies.
it sounds likes it 180deg out, sounds like back firing through the carb...
ive got a manual and talks about timing, can these be so advanced so much to cause this?.
also what compression should these motors run about?
cheers Toby

check your exhaust cam lobe for wear. lobe height should be 1.29" to 1.27" its common on some of the Fugi 500,455 and 425 using the wrong oil. Do a "search" on the topic on this site. Here's some of many.

The easiest way to find out if it's the cam is to take off the valve cover and watch the lobes as they go through their travel. The center lobe is the exhaust lobe and it usually is the problem.
