Default Tow dolly (for Sporstmans)

Has anyone ever rigged up a tow dolly to connect to our receiver Hitch
to be able to load two front tires on of the broke down ATV. I watched
a typical road tow dolly go by me on the road the other day and was
wondering if someone makes them for ATV's or if someone has rigged
one up?

How does one really tow another ATV without something like this anyways?

Thanks,

R'

Not that I know of but I haven't looked for one either. Only had to tow one quad of a hill. It was another X2 that had a log go up under the plastic and rip the throttle cable up. It was not fun using a tow strap and having him hit the brakes but we got down the couple of miles without any further damage.

So my thinking here is being broken down out on a trail deep in the stuff. The tow dolly would be back at the truck or in the trailer to use for the whole party IF there was a broke down ATV. Fortunately, it hasn't happened to us. Closest thing was my buddy's chain on his Trailboss kept popping off like every mile on the 18 loop. We had to pull over so many times and tighten it, was a hellish day for sure. It would be a PITA to take all the time to go back to a trail head and get it but beats leaving the bike stranded. -- IMO

i think you could make one and use smaller atv tires and have it like a car dolly. although unless you broke say the front end or rear and couldn't just tow it on it's own wheels, it would be just as easy to haul it w/ tow strap. but it would be a cool idea.

RIGHT! Yea you would definitely need two wheels for sure! Broken axle would be a valid application since it would be hard to pull with a strap if its seperated from tire, those sorts of things.

You could buy or make your own receiver set-up easily. Thinking something like the one's that mount in the receiver (basket style) for putting items in. Some angle iron, expanded metal, and receiver set-up & you'll be good to go(other than having to either haul it along or go back to get it).

Hey switz, I like that idea but what is the tongue weight on the receiver hitch? Would be cool to insert into the hitch and then mount the two front tires on a device for hauling it out BUT these Sportsmans are heavy and not sure how well that would work. And going back to Stendori's point what if it is the rear, towing it backwards?

Great discussion points! Its all engineering, post your idea and post up a pic sketch!

Cheers,
