Default 00/01 250 TrailBlazer drive chain

i may not be able to see the forest because of the trees, but i don't seem to be able to find a chain tensioner/adjuster for my 250 trailblazer. i bought it used so i don't have a book on it. is there an adjuster or do i need to pull links and try half links to tighten the drive chain? i'm pretty sure it is a 2000 or 2001 model. i searched for posts concerning this but didn't see any so here it is. thanks.....

There is not chain tensioner on it stock. You can buy an aftermarket one and put on it.

The quad does have a process to tighten the chain.

First, loosen the swingarm bolts on the axle. Then loosen the two bottom bolts on the rear brake caliper. Some will also recommend either having someone sit on the seat, or use a ratchet strap to compress the rear shock. Roll the quad forward and it should tighten the chain. Then tighten the bolts back. If it hasn't been done before, you'll probably need a very large set of pliers. I like using a large pipe wrench. Put that on the axle and try to spin it.

If that's the original chain, you may want to look closely at it and see if the o-rings are still there. Also check the front and rear sprockets for wear too.

thanks Scootergptx! you're a lifesaver! chain tightened up great and the O-rings are intact. as a general "rule", if a quad doesn't have a tensioner, will your procedure work on other makes/models?

Generally, no. Just about any Polaris model, but other makes have other quirks to them.

Glad to hear you're set to go.
