Default 2009 850 xp

Hi All,
I recently bought a new 2009 850 Xp. this is my first Polaris. I'm surprised by the amount of engine noise. Is this typical of Polaris? and is there any way to quiet it down. I also need advice on cruising at around 25 MPH. the dealer tells me it is better on the machine to use low gear to prevent belt damage. Any advice will be appreciated.

Cruising? 25 mph? I would never associate either of those 2 things with low gear.

polairs is known for having "noisy" machines, however the XP's are much quieter than previous generations.

the XP can do 39mph in low if needed, but anything over 7mph or non-muddy/technical terrain, use high

My 850 is definitely louder than my 05 500HO, but with all the things better on the XP over the old SP, I'll take it and not complain. I actually think it sounds way better than the old parallel twins, which were, well, buzzy sounding.

Use high gear when cruising.

I've had my 850 up to 42 mph in low range. When I'm running trails where speeds range from 10 - 30 mph, I just leave it in low range.
