Default 95 Sportsman 400 reverse issues

Idles fine and runs good in forward but when shifting into reverse the machine dies. It will stay running in reverse with the override button pushed but if not when in reverse the machine dies. Anyone have some suggestions???

i just had that problem with a 500 sportsman, one of the guys on here pointed me to the reverse limiter, that was causing my problem, it was kicking in and causing it to die in reverse, i looked up a fix for it and bypassed the limiter and the bike works fine, now, i like it much better, only requires a little wiring under the hood,

Find the black wire coming out of the limiter and unplug it.Problem solved. If you want to replace the reverse limiter I have a used one but unplugging is the way to go.
