Speed Limiter "spacer" on a XP 850?

I'm not sure for most 850 owners, but mine (sep 08 build date) will do 74 MPH... My friend Jeff's, a later build date, will do a little faster, but the last time we did a long WOT run, his belt came off. Just disintegrated inside the housing. So I'm not sure taking out a supposed speed limiting spacer is a great idea... besides, isn't 75ish fast enough on an 830lb quad?? (I know, it's never fast enough, the 850 is rock stable at that speed... it's so much fun)

You are so right Mongrel. But it's a risk one takes at times, when one is addicted to speed and power... I did not mention in my previous post that I havent had my 850 goin that fast since the belt issue on Big Jeff's. (My name is Jeff too, but I'm 90lbs lighter than Big Jeff, and 5 inches taller to boot). I do get to 60-65 during a some runs though, depending where we are riding. I like 69.1 HP and all it's virtues, and I respect how quickly things can get out of hand with 69.1 HP and 830 lbs.

The spike load damper is fixed until it is stressed to the slipping point, at which time it, well, slips a bit to take the stress off the drive train. On the AC's and Polaris's (the two brands I know of that have SLD's), once popped, the SLD will pop easier the next time. The fix is to replace or weld it tight. BTW, I havent popped mine, and neither has Big Jeff, and his 850 has 27" XTR's.

The speed limiting spacer that was referred to is a shim in the clutch. It prevents the clutch from traveling all the way and thus limits the final drive ratio.
