Fuel Filter???
Good evening - I have a 2007 Sportsman 500 X2 - went for a ride the other evening and while on the trail the machine stalled when at idle...got it started but had to hold the throttle for it to stay running. After cycling the ignition a few times and letting the fuel pump prime it will start but stall immediately. If I hold the throttle it will start but as soon as the throttle is let off it stalls again. Do you think the fuel filter could be dirty and needs to be changed or could it be another issue...any assistance would be greatly appreciated...oh the bike normally is rode in Florida but this issue happened while in North Carolina. Thanks - Dave - Oh and where would the fuel filter be located? I could find it this afternoon while attempting to trouble shoot.

I encountered a similar problem with my 800 x2 efi except when I gave it any gas it would die. This happened once when I was on a ride and again when I arrived home. The first time I topped off the tank it started to work again. I put a new fuel filter on it since, hope it's fixed. While I was trying to restart it the first time the pump sounded funny, like it was loosing fuel or something. I figure it was building preasure in the line though because it would always cut out normally. If you ever do replace the filter it's in under the fuses behind the cross member that does between the strut towers, tough place to get at. The filters aren't cheap either but the worst part is reading in my shop manual that if anything goes in the tank (pump/sender) you have to replace the entire tank assembly... I know there are aftermarket pumps avaible but it's crazy that Polaris wants you to buy a $300 + tank assembly if something minor breaks, frikkin nuts!
