I uses to change it by the book but the screen was always clean, now I just drain the oil tank, start the motor for 10 seconds and it drains the remaining cup of oil out of the crank case with out removing the drain plug. Oil change in 10 minutes now and 3,500 miles and running strong. Same system with out 97 SP500 with 7500 miles.

If you don't remove and clean the screen why do you still need to prime the oil pump ?

This sort of thing is a gripe of mine not just with ATVs but with all vehicles and machinery. For some reason designers don't seem to comprehend that once the things leave the factory they require maintenance. Standard maintenance like oil changes and lubrication should be painfully simple and consumable parts like starters, thermostats, alternators, blower motors, fuel pumps, heater cores etc should be designed for easy and quick removal and replacement.
