Default Metallic Shavings in Oil

Hey everyone. I just changed the oil in my 2009 Sportsman 500 EFI yesterday. So far the machine has 68 hours on it. This is its third oil change since I've had it, and the last change was about 20 running hours (~6 months) ago. When I drained the oil, put a light up next to it, and swirled my finger around in it, I noticed that it looked pretty "sparkly" like there was metal dust floating around in it. Is 68 hours a little too long for metal dust to be showing up in the oil from the initial break-in? Thanks for any assistance.

welcome to the forum. if they are like small particals then a little is normal as it may still be breaking in (at least a few that i have seen) a little. watch for bigger shavings for sure. imo

Howdy all......it seems to me that the magnet on the oil drain plug would catch the iron metals and the oil filter should catch the non ferrous metals.....if it's metal floating around....then it has to be super tiny stuff. Maybe it's more carbon, etc., than anything else........NoJoke
