xplorer vs H.O.
#1
I just sold my 300 xplorer and am looking to upgrade. I want something which will have better performance then the grizley. The H.O. is more money then the xplorer is it worth it. Which is the better bike ?

Hey Benton~
The 400 Explorer is the fastest Utility ATV made today. You would have no problem beating a griz in a drag race or through the woods. Explorer is even faster than the H.O. Deciding between these 2 machines comes down to 2 stroke vs 4 stroke. All personal preferance. If you've had good luck with your 300, then without a doubt, get the Explorer. The best part of the Explorer is it's at least $1,000 cheaper than the H.O. Also, if you ever decide to modify it, you can do so quite cheaply with a clutch kit and pipe. Explorer400 all the way!

Benton, which is best depends on what your idea of the bestis. If you are after the cushy ride with very good performance the H.O. is your bike of choice. If you want a more spirited performance and the cushy ride isn't a must then the XPLORER is your bike. I've owned both the Sportsman and the Xplorer, on the Sportsman the ride is alot smoother. The XPLORER on the other hand has a harsher ride compared to the Sportsman but compared to everything else out there it is cushy. The Xplorer will out-accellerate and has more top-end than the Sportsman. Although the HO might be close it can't be easly modified for more H.P.. The Xplorer can be easly be modified to over 50 HP! As far as handling goes the Xplorer can be much more aggressively ridden. I guess it all depends on what you want and how deep your wallet is. Some will say there is more maintinance on the XPLORER because of the chain drive, this is not really a factor. Chain adjustments on a concentric drive are few and far between, just keep it oiled thats all.

MNXPLORER,
and I agree on this subject.I had a 99 500cc Sportsman. In comparison to the 2000 400cc Xplorer,it is much heavier, weighing in at 697lbs DRY weight compared to the Xplorers 588lbs DRY weight. The 100+lbs is easily felt.
I dont miss the ride of the Sportsman UNTIL I switch rides with a friend who owns one.I HATED the brown color of my stock seat,I had my friend at the upholstery shop remove it and add one inch of padding to the seat and cover it in black. Now the quad rides great and it also looks MUCH better too.
Acceleration is much better on the Xplorer, maintenance is good to.You can travel around 4-5 hundred miles on a tank of injection oil to.
I dont miss my Sportsman at all,I'd take the Xplorer over it again. In fact,if I'd of known what I know now about the Xplorer before I purchased the Sportsman, the Xplorer would of been my first choice,
