Scrambler Weight Discrepencies ???
#1
I took the bathroom scale out to the garage this evening and weighed the front end and then the back end and added the two weights together and got 475lbs. The fuel tank was full and it seems that they put the "wrong" parts on my quad, I have steel rims, floorboards, and front bumper... The claimed weight on the 2000s was 501lbs dry !! Now, I have changed the handlebars to aluminum, put a HPD pipe with the stock silencer, and removed the oil injection pump and tank. I don't think that I removed 26lbs that easily, not only that, but there's 32lbs of fuel ( 4 gallons at 8lbs per gallon ) in the tank. That's 58lbs !!! That's over a 10% difference !!!
I wonder how much weight I can take off of with some aluminum parts ??

Keep in mind that measuring the front, then the back, will not give you a correct reading. Because the opposite tires were still on the ground, you were not getting the the 50% of the machines weight. You were probably only measuring about 40% on the front and rear. You would need to measure the whole machine at once to get an accurate reading.
Try weighing yourself, then put your quad on your shoulder, and weigh yourself again. Subtract the different, and there you go.

The scale is only a 250lb capacity.
The NASCAR and other circle track racers use scales under each of the wheels to get weight distribution. I placed the scale on top of a floor jack and lifted just enough to clear the tires off the floor. Jacking higher brought the indicated weight down, as this weight was transferred to the opposite end.

I wouldn't think the bathroom type scale is even in the same league as a nascar type scale as they have one pad per wheel. You could go get three more LOL!!! and see if theres a difference in weights with four scales. But then again have you ever seen these scales read the right weight. I'm 215# at home, 220# at the parents house, and 265# on the one in my buddy's garage that we used to check the weight of the pipes for his sled(he saved about three pounds with the dg stuff)
