Default 1996 Sportsman 500 cam bad, top end rebuild?

My cam shaft went out on my quad, and so I've tore it all the way down to the crankcase. Stock piston and rings looks good, but am wondering what to do from here since I have everything tore apart. The cylinder wall looks perfect, no visible blemishes or marks. Piston is extremely clean.

I just talked to a guy at a racing shop, and he said to install a new exhaust rocker (no intake rockers), a camshaft, bore it ($55) and throw a wiseco piston kit (piston & gasket set) in. He wants to also do a valve job on it. Is this all necessary?

All in all, cost would run me $404.96 for valve job, cylinder bored, wiseco oversized piston, wiseco top end gasket kit. I would still have to buy an OEM camshaft ($206) or an aftermarket camshaft ($350+) and exhaust rocker ($50). Fair price?

My additional questions:

1) Should I replace the stock piston with a Wiseco piston since I've got the cylinder off already, or just replace the rings on the stock piston?
2) I've read OEM gasket sets are better than Wiseco. Is this true? Which are better to get and why?
3) Should i replace the intake rockers as well? Or at least have someone look at the head assembly to determine if anything else is wore?

Any other advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have a stock cam excellent shape out of a 2000 sportsman 500. 125.00 shipped in USA. If your intake rockers are in good shape you can reuse them. All the other things depends on how much you want to spend yes you can bore it new piston ,cam etc $$$$. Or you can just put a cam and rocker arm and put it back together for far less money and ride it for what it is.

you should have done a compression test before taking it all apart. I have a 99 sportsman 500 last weekend I put a new cam and exhaust rocker in it, the cost was(Canadian) $275 for the cam and $75 for the rocker. its easy to do I wouldn`t pay anyone to do the job. took about 2 hours and was running like a top. If you need to do the cylinder source it out, don`t pay a shop to do it. spend 50bucks and get a good book on your quad and everything will be in it (specks, torques, trouble shooting) save yourself a ton of cash. If there is something you find that you don`t have an answer for just ask here. There are alot of good people here that are willing to help.
