Default 1999 Sportsman- Weap Hole Leaking

Hey all, I have been reading past posts on the weap hole leaking on other quads.
(For those who do not know, the weap hole is directly under the water pump, under the quad, and is an 1/8" hole that drips antifreeze if your seal is bad, i believe)
my question is this:
anything wrong with not replacing the seal and putting a piece of 1/8" metal line in there, then attaching a piece of 1/8" clear tubing to that metal line. then secure teh tubing about 5 inches higher than the weap hole, somewhere on the frame???
or do i have to get this seal fixed? thanks

I too have a 99 sportsman but I haven`t had any problems with my water pump. But it is my understanding that when the weep hole is leaking its a sign of a bad water pump bearing, and the water pump should be replaced in the near future. If the seal your talking about is an internal seal then replacing it will only solve the problem temporarily as the failed barring will cause the new seal to fail also. I would guess that you will need to replace the water pump to solve the problem permanently or at least until the new pump goes south.

If it is leaking then the vast majority of the time all you need is the seal.

You must be VERY careful not to break that little water pump shaft when you replace this seal. If you break it you will have to pull the engine and tear it completely apart to replace it.

Nice, thanks Overdrive and TLC great info. I`m sure at some point I`ll also have to do this and now knowing, it will make the job stress free. Nothing at all like a vehicle water pump in relationship to a leaking weep hole.
