Default 05 sportsman wont start

Hi I'm new to this forum, I have a 05 sportsman that wont start, when I turn the key on i have full power to the lights and winch. When i go to turn it over all i'm getting is a clicking noise coming from what i think it is the starter relay, can some one please help me out on this one.

Thanks armyrepsol

Sounds like the solenoid or starter is the culprit. With a screw driver try jumping the solenoid posts (located near the battery on most) to see if the starter motor engages. If so I'd suspect the solenoid is bad. If not, probably a starter motor problem. Had the same issue intermittently with my 07 and turned out to be a sticking brush in the starter housing. If you suspect the starter motor, try tapping on it with a screw driver to see if it'll work. (sometimes you get lucky) Also check all electrical connections.

Depends on how handy you are. The solenoid only takes a couple minutes to change. The starter on the other hand is a little more time consuming but not a difficult job. Just need a little patience.

welcome to the forum. first question we always ask is the battery 100% charged? if so, as mentioned w/ the key on jump the 2 big cables on the solenoid(just follow the battery cables back to it) and if the starter engages the engine you know it's a bad solenoid. if not then the starter is the issue. if you are not mechanical inclined i would let a dealer fix it. good luck.

"Usually" a series of clicks in rapid succesion is a low battery, try this, turn on the switch/turn on the headlamps/now twist the ignition into start mode while watching the headlamps, did the headlamp go dim??? if so then you have either a bad battery or a discharged battery.
Put the battery,if in a low state of charge on the charger for twentyfour hours at two amps then see if it starts,if it has the same symptoms then remove the battery and take it to a partshouse or to Your polaris dealer and have it checked,if bad replace the battery.
DO not operate Your maachine with a bad battery,it can burn out the stator and then You will have problems.
