hilliard clutch problem
#13
well I put a new armature plate it cuz it was the cheapest fix and it works better and better ever time I drive it... can someone explain why its doing that... I went through some snow and she got stuck cuz it wasn't working right while I was trying to get it out it started working better and better... would the fluid make it do that?

Can`t explain that, maybe there could have been some crud in the hillard and with the new armature plate actually holding to the magnet and engaging the hillard the crud is working its way out. If thats the case I`d almost be tempted to use the awd on and off a bunch of times and change out the fluid (flush out the system).

Ya I'm starting to think that now... I just put my baby to bed and I have to put into awd do get in the shed but she couldn't do it cuz that damn clutch... I had to drive around for a bit to get it to go... or maybe the megnet is on its way out... I did check it and the plate stuck real good... I don't know anymore

you may need to adjust it the Magnetic coil. I don`t have the spec`s at the moment. On 1 of the posts here there is a link about the front hub it explains how to do it. Now im thinking that the coils pull isn`t great enough and will engage when the fluid has warmed up. All thats required is adjustment, also there is a post somewhere on the net that explains how to check the resistance on the coil. I`d find it for you but its late now and I need to hit the sack. Its all easy to do you just need to understand how the front end works, its seems hard at first but once you get it you will wonder why it was so hard.

its easy, just remove the hub and use a punch from the back side to remove the sleeve that covers the Magnetic coil, once thats off the coil is held in with silicone.
Before you do that, take the wheel off start the quad and hit the awd switch than take a screwdriver and lightly touch the strut housing as close to where you think the Magnetic coil is then gently move the screwdriver away. It should try to stick to the housing (Magnetic pull)if its working it will only be a light pull so don`t expect the screwdriver to stick there. Or you can take the hub completely off and try the same as stated above. If you suspect its working as it should and you have a new armature plate my next guess is its outside of the specified tolerances you will need feeler gages and a straight edge to check and set the sleeve.
