I am considering buying a sp500HO or a 400 xplorer. I am familar with the maintence required for the xplorer but not the sp500. How long does it take you once you know what your doing and what is the frequency required if you mud ride. Finally which zerk fittings are the hardest to get to on the sp500.

Hi Benton, if your talking about just greasing the zerks, about 15 min. If your talking about about greasing the zerks, and changing engine oil and cleaning the air filter, I would say a hour and a half. The hardest zerk to get at IMHO is the one on the front driveshaft. You have to get at it from under the machine through a hole in the skid plate, and roll the machine back and forth untill the zerk on the U-joint faces down. It may take a while for the first four or 5 grease jobs, but one you figure it out you can do it in 15 minutes easily. The other zerk that is hard to get too is the upper steering stem zerk, but fortunetly, it needs greasing the least. The only way I can find to get to it is too remove the front middle plastic, or the "hood"

Hope this helps

Dave

HO Rider,

Thanks for the info. Do you have to remove the wheels to get to some zerks? If so how often.

I grease the whole bike(20 min) once a week if I used it all that week.I grease the rear bushing, front tie rod ends and back u joints(5 min) every 2nd ride if it was a wet muddy ride because those parts need more attention and are quick and easy to get at.
