Default Diesel Ranger

I've got the new diesel Ranger on demo for the weekend. Off hunting with it tomorrow then I quiet ride around some trails on Sunday.

The dealer is selling them like hotcakes, probably due to the low running costs. But remember the market over here is made up purely of agricultural rather than leisure riders.

I'll take some pics and let you know how it goes.

First impressions are sluggish and very heavy steering but I'll give it a chance over the weekend.

Watch this space

Have heard about the diesel wheelers, but not about how they perform. Look forward to reading what you think. Thanks!

Well it's back on the trailer ready to drop at the dealer's in the morning after a good weekend.

The weather here has been very cold so the ground is hard so getting stuck was never going to be an issue.

First impressions were that it was sluggish with very heavy steering but after riding it a while it's more just a case of a stiff pedal (or return springs) and lack of power steering. The steering is fine on the move and surprisingly responsive on icy winter roads.

It tops out at 35mph which is probably fast enough and it means you can go everywhere flat out.

It carried three guys, two dogs and the game for the day very comfortably and even my passengers commented on how well it was handling the rough ground at speed.

The dealer has fitted a soft top cab and glass windscreen which are a god send at this time of year. The door nets are a pain in the *** especially with big gloves on and had they not been bolted on they would have been removed. We could all here each other speak and it was quite pleasant in the cab.

It's certainly not a high performance machine where speed is concerned but I imagine it will do 35mph no matter what's in it or behind it.

I'm keen to get a Ranger but it won't be the diesel I'm afraid. I'll just need to enquire as to when the new petrol demo will be in ..................

I drove a diesel Ranger back in June and I agree with the heavy steering.

I know it's not a racer but I did like driving it.

My friend has a new Ranger 500 and seems to like it so far.
