stater solenoid

Anyone, ever experienced difficulty with their starter solenoid in the sense that you have to click it several times before it goes all the way and makes good contact to engage the starter? Just like trying to start the engine with a dead battery.
Mine is an 08 sporstman/800 and if it has not gone for a while, say overnight, it will contact only after many tries and the battery is alway fully charged as I keep it on a battery tender. When the engine is warm, it is not an issue.
Just wondering what is the cause.remedy for that?

May have starter bendix not engaging from dirt or water, IMO i would probe the starter wire with an test light.. take test light and clip to ground then probe starter wire with pick, then push starter button while probe is in wire if the probe lights up while button is pushed then your solenoid is working, then problem is below the probe not before, [starter brushes or sticking bendix].Good Luck..
