Default Winch wire size

Just wondering what everyone else is running for wire size to their winch. I currently have 00, but it is old and crunchy. I was going to swap it out. Is 10 gauge big enough, or should I go beefier?

Thanks,

hmm, just found the Warn Winch spec sheet for it. It says 6 gauge wire. It also says it can pull up to 204 amps. I currently have a 100amp fuse on it. I guess I need to bump that up to a 225 amp.

10ga will hold a good amount of current- but those winches can draw a mighty load when torquing out. I'd go thicker...

thats like the only differnce form the old 2000 vs the 2,500 warns was a heavier gauge wire which as mentioned will hold more power.

You'll want to be careful running a smaller gauge wire. The higher the amperage gets the hotter the wires will get. Possible melt down or fire if you run to small and they get hot enough. 10ga. would be the absolute smallest I'd run on my personal equipment.

I went with 6 gauge. I crimped and soldered on the ring terminals. It worked good for a few minutes, but then I started having other problems. Starting a different thread for different problems. Thank for the advice.
