Default '08 Sportsman 500 Reverse Override Mod?

I've got an '08 sportsman 500 EFI. I have seen somewhere that you can wire in a relay so that you don't have to push the yellow reverse button - it does it automatically. I get tired of having to push the button to get 4x4 in reverse - it really sucks when I'm stuck - I cant push the button, the throttle, and the machine at the same time to get it unstuck. I found the wiring info for the older sportsmans, but the wire colors did not match up with my wiring harness. Anyone have the wiring instructions for my machine? Thanks!

Mike

Pull the top off your headlight pod. Locate the orange/grey wire on the larger 16 pin connector and pigtail a wire to that and also one to a ground wire(I use the one off te accessory plug). Hook them to a toggle switch and you are set. "On" will give you full power in reverse without the button and "off" will allow you to use the button to scroll through the different speedo functions. Nice to do it this way in case an inexperienced rider is on your machine. You can turn it off so they have to use the button.

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to get goin' on it! I really don't know what they were thinking of when designed it to disengage 4x4 in reverse

Why not use your own ground instead of splicing another wire. Couldn't I use the ground I'm using for my hand and thumbwarmers?
