welcome to the forum. sounds like the hubs aren't getting power. is the awd light on when you push awd button? it should be a 2 stroke so any good 2 stroke oil will work depending whats already in there.

the 4x4 is on all the time apparently because whenever i flip the switch either way, it stays in 4x4...so, how could i reattach it to the hub?

if your asking what kind of oil does the quad take? it takes any 2 stroke oil for oil injection systems. if your asking what kind of oil does the 4wd take? it takes Polaris Demand drive fluid. for the front hubs. as for power getting to the hubs take off the front plastic to expose the power block find the 2 small wires going to the hub (2 to the right side and 2 to the left side) first make sure there is power 12volts at the connections with the awd switch turned on. if there is power there, then take the front hub apart to expose the magnetic coil still with the switch in AWD place a small screwdriver on the coil you will feel a magnetic pull if you don`t try and trace the small wires there more than likely a brake in them. If you get a magnetic pull at the coil you 4wd should be working fine. Make sure the armature plate is good and reinstall the components to spec use demand drive fluid in the hubs some say type f tranny fluid will work personally you should use polaris fluid.
