I have a repair manual but it was not clear on how to remove the drive shafts from the differential. It claims there is an internal snap ring but I wouldn't know how to get to them without taking the diff. apart anyway... I'm confused here...

They just hank out, it would of be better to hank/jerk them out before you took the diff out.
The shaft is held in by a compression clip (Snap Ring).

Here,s a Video of a guy pulling one out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8iZp...eature=related

Its a Can AM but there all held in the same way.

Here is how you do it if its rusted in place. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjXw8...feature=fvwrel

When you put it back it use ati seize lube on the spline so it comes out easier next time, if you need to do a cv boot change down the road.

OK well this gets me going in the right direction. Will I have to replace the clips once I put it all back together?

I use the same clip, when I do a CV boot change. If it looks good you can reuse it.

I will inspect them and see if they are worth reusing. If I can get new ones before I ride I will.
