Next time I'm in I'm going to open up a twin kit and a single kit and see what oil is in there . I'm thinking there both be PS-4 plus which I think is 2w50 . I like using Amsoil 0w40 as it's the same oil that I run in my 1200 makes it easy .

 

I never though, but it maybe just a different box do to the twins using a different oil filter.

Anyways I still want 0w it still a slightly thinner viscosity than 2w on cold starts,be it not by much.

I think the 2w-50 odd ball viscosity it so people think they have to buy there oil from the Polaris dealer, because no aftermarket oil manufacturer makes it or sells it.

 

Funny how that works out.

Ive asked this before and no=one can answer, Who makes Polaris oil? I Know they put it out for bid and the cheapest company gets the bid, I dont want that oil in my machine I want to know its AMsoil, Castrol, Mobile1 penzsoil, valvoline ect

 

One of my earlier posts I mentioned the supplier of Polaris oil products, (actually a distributor that was "supposed' to blend for Polaris)BUT can't seem to remember! Old age,senility, I guess. Still as mentioned above they have to get there bulk from a "major " company! Will try to look back. OPT

 

Checking back I found that it was LUBRICATION TECHNOLOGIES,INC stickers(along with Polaris Industries decal) that were on the 55 gallon drums of bulk oil that I used in the shop. They supplied the 0-40 oil and the last drum I had before I retired was PS4PLUS (2w-50) from the same company. They could be changing companies as I speak now,don't really know any more. On the website they show they use three of the Twin Cities oil companies as there suppliers(Gopher State Oil, Hallman Oil,and Jennison Rollins Oil Company. LUBE-TECH started operations in1993) Plus they are partners with the Swiss base Motorex oil,which is what we sold the most of to KTM riders! From 1988 to 1994 don't really know who the supplier of our 2-stroke oil was(could still have been Lube-Tech) as Polaris didn't have a four stoke at that time,plus up until 1995 we used a NASTY graphite based gear case oil for all transmissions. Would actually stain you hands so bad you couldn't hardly scrub it off! OPT

I have a 2002 500 HO and it calls for 10W-40 synthetic in my polaris manual. i have been running 10w-40 in it. would 0w-40 be better?

 

You might read the manual again! Even if its a Chilton manual should say 0-40 (the old oil Polaris originally recommended which is STILL ok to use Mobil 1,etc)) or ps4 or ps4plus (the new 2w-50 oil) If it says 10-40 get another manual,chunk the one you have.(Polaris doesn't make a 10-40 oil,At least not that I'm aware of for atv's? OPT is PS4 0w40 and PS4 plus 2w-50 is that how Polaris is now labeling there oils ?
