another oil question
i did try to search but not with great answers. I am going to need to change the break in oil in my 2011 sportsman 500 soon. can anyone tell me what is some alternative i can use for oil and filters? I am not looking to be cheap but saving money if i can helps in every way. My friends say they use 5w-30 in their brute forces with no problems with a cross brand oil filter as well. I just think there should be some $ savings somewhere. I tried to search but must not know how to use the right words. Thanks

Many guys here run Mobile-1, 0-w40 synthetic including myself. You can do a search for the filter. many brands out there like a napa #1358. As far as what oil you use I'd stick with a synthetic 0w40 or 2w50 pending on what your bike calls for. Or if you like, take your chances by using what your buddies are using on their brutes but remember their engines are not the same as well as the specs. I wouldn't cheap out on something like your oil. It may just make the difference in the long run.

The Fuji 500 need Synthetic 0w-40 to get the oil to the top end (cam lobe) on cold starts as soon a possible. I would not even try the 2w-50 Polaris stuff thats made for there larger twins that are not dry sump motors like the Fuji built motors.
The are many many automotive oil filters though. I use a Fram CPH6607 because a store near by sells them along with Amsoil 0w-40.

Can you still buy 0w-40 Polaris oil from the dealers ? my dealer seems to only stock 2w-50 . I only run 0w-40 Amsoil ( just ordered 3 cases ) so I never ask them about oil , I run Amsoil oil filters as well .

The kit I buy from them (sometimes) is still 0w-40 unless there leftover stock.
The Amsoil and automotive filter works out cheaper for me and is not as far of a truck ride.
