I just replaced my fuel gauge. All I did was pry up on the bottom of the gauge slowly and evenly. It came out with no issues. I purchased the gauge that came with the rubber insert/gasket. I simply installed the rubber insert than the gauge. ( I did use silicone spray to help with the installation of the gauge). I hope this helps.
