95 Xplorer Cooling System
#1
Can someone(s) explain the cooling system operation on a 1995 Xplorer 400. Sometimes the overheat indicator light comes on, but it doesn't seem hot nor does the fan kick on. I'd like to try and figure out if theres a problem before any engine damage occurs. Thanks

if the bike is not getting hot or spitting out coolant and the fan isn't coming on (but you know it works) then it might be a temp sensor starting to go bad or maybe the connections to the light might be bad or corroded and giving a false light saying its hot. would be my guess.

just sorted my heatin system out,...heat light works of sending unit on back of head,....fan works of sending unit on top inside of radiator,...light has power threw bulb to sending unit,..when it get hot,..sending unit will close connection an ground circuit, light comes on,...fan,..has power to sending unit on radiator,..gets hot,..sending unit closes an sends power to fan motor,..if coolant level in radiator is 2 inches low,..it will not reach sending unit to transfer tempature,....for 20 bucks i went an got standard manual temp gauge an hooked it up where light sending unit gose in head,...just like knowing,..not trusting a light!!good luck,..love my xplorer,.not as fast or strong as my buddys v-twin 650 prairie,...but keeps me eating his dust real close!!
