2011 Sportsman XP Viper Winch Install, and Contactor up front!!!
Hey all, After about 5 hours outside today, I got my winch installed, and with the contactor on the front of the bike. I search all over the web and it seemed like no one was willing to take the time to locate a place to fit the big *** box that comes with the elite winches, so i took pictures. No extra cables, everything was a perfect fit, no rubbing, no unnecessary zip ties. Without further delay, hopefully this will help any new bike owners that plan to install a winch on their own.
As far as how its mounted, I used the tab on the bottom through an existing hole in the front frame piece. the top hole I inserted a bolt in to stop the contactor from tilting forward, its a perfect fit, resting on the radiator support and locked in place by the bolt. There is 0 wiggle or free play. Also, the plug is about 1/4" from the front bumper when mounted, PERFECT!!!!. I would recommend taking the front bumper off as I did to mount this way.

Thanks Stendori, actually only had to remove 6 bolts and 2 pushpin thingy's. The lower bumper had to come off anyway, so technically only 2 extra bolts to do it this way. The contactor for the elite's is also the wireless remote receiver, hence its size. Like I said, hopefully it will save someone else, as I spent about 2 hours tracking down a good mounting point.

I've got a wireless set-up for my winch and it looks just like that. I think I'm gonna have to mount it in the front accessory box on my XP. I'm not wild about the thing exposed to all the mud and water. I thought about the trunk in the back but it gets freaking hot in there. I hate to mount it in the box and lose the storage space but I don't see any other reasonably dry stop to put it.

Your best bet is to take the contactor out of the box and mount it on it's own.
If possible (depends on model) split the two halves of the contactor and re-seal with silicone. A wee bit of grease on the terminals, even boots if you have them and you're good to go.
All the box is going to do is hold any water or crap that gets in there.
