Default Trail Boss 330 Problem?!?

hi, we just got a 2001 trailboss 330 fourstroke the other day and today it started to sputter and skip out like it was not getting any gas, but only at a higher rpm. at idle and quarter throttle its fine, once u punch it it bogs down and skips. we checked the airfilter, cleaned the fuel lines and tank, pulled the carb out to clean everything, and still doing the same thing. any suggestions?

Not to nitpick, but I don't think the 330 came out till 2003. Not a huge amount difference, but the jetting for the 330 and the 325 are different.

Did you happen to see what main jet was in the carb while you had it apart?

I'd really be leaning towards the jets if it's cutting out.

Just wish they'd have made it a little easier to get to the carb and remove and replace it.

Was it bought locally? Just a random thought, but if you live in high elevation and it's not jetted right it would be a problem. Or vise versa on that.

Welcome to the forum bc1824!

When you clean the carb.. remove all the jets and the tube like deal the main jet screws into.. their are very small holes going thri the side of that tube.. if they are plugged they would cause the problem your having..

I would also pull the fuel screw out and spray carb cleaner thru all the passages... if youve got compressed air Id use it next... and dont let the carb cleaner get on anything made of rubber... It will grow to a useless size...dont ask me how know that..

I had a 00 boss. Not sure where he got his info, but that isn't true if it's all stock.

Now when you say "fresh" I'm guessing he rebuilt the motor? That and if the pipe and air filter are performance parts could play a big part in jetting.

They are jetted so lean from the factory from the beginning, plus most of the 325 and 330 fuel air screws(that are capped off) need to be opened up on mixture screw, have found some only turned out about 1/2 turn! Need to be about 2 turns out! Most have been hard to warm up even with choke on! Plus without a good air filter, even worse!! OPT
