Default '95 trail boss 250 tranny trouble

Reverse works great, but in forward, the transmission is slipping, (almost makes you think the chain is slipping, but not that lucky)How bad is tearin the tranny apart to check the silent chain? Does anyone have any suggestions, or some insight to what it may be or what we are looking for? Thanks! Also, any info on adjustments, and where to put the tranny fluid in would be appreciated!

If you haven't already checked the front sprocket for worn teeth and also for worn inner splines part #(3221044), I would check this first. The 95 2x4 transmission was a transitional year as parts depended on serial number of the transmission! The main tool necessary to pull the transmission is the front clutch puller as both clutches have to be removed,But I would invest in a manual (some posters may have a free source online) and you can look up the exploded view on the transmission on Pure Polaris Parts Catalog OR Cycle Parts Warehouse. If outer sprockets are ok,the most common reason for slipping was the internal chain which would stretch OR the forward engagement gear dog wear OR a combination of both! OPT

From what I have seen most of the time it is the chain. Once you replace the chain and anything else that it needs there is one quick and easy thing you can do that makes a HUGE difference in how long these parts last.

Fill the trans with Castrol Syntec 5w50.
