any difference?

when purchasing a new part. i know years make a difference but how far from my year can i go? and does engine size make a difference at all? like if i buy a part made for a 400 when mine is a 350?

im looking at used parts. and trying to go the cheapest most efficient route too. im going to have to rig something to avoid having to pay more money for a whole setup. and the part i found looks very similar to my existing part just for a dif year and model

Usually it's generation specific as best as I can tell. I know alot of the gen 3 parts are mostly the same as far as frame, plastics, running gear and the like. The difference between them comes from the engine and electronics. I'm sure other generations are similar also, but I'd check whichever part you are working on through the microfisch from both years and see if they just happen to have the same part number.

Part numbers do not change. If a 99 and a 2011 use the same part they will have the same part number and price.
Sometimes not , you can put a 12" rim from a 2011 SP on a 1999 SP with 10" rear rims for instants.

Right, that's what I was basically trying to say. If the two different machines had two different styles or some other difference, whichever part polarispotter is looking to replace may or may not interchange due to variances. But if that part numbers are the same then it should be a good fit. Wheels will definitely fit other years/models, those are only a clearance ordeal of brakes, shocks, swaybars, etc(and of course lug pattern).
