You have got to have a GOOD puller. Go to the auto parts store and buy a harmonic balancer puller. It will take it off.

excellent the flywheel is off..thankyou people

the magnets are all in pieces and stuck to everything does this mean i need a new flywheel or can i get new magnets.

Also how do i go about checking that the electric bits work like the copper windings with the metal pads on and the other smaller electrical item at the bottem???

You will need a new flywheel(Hopefully replacement flywheel is improved,BUT parts breakdown shows your style not the newer sealed ones?) Plus check for damage to the stator,USUALLY happens when the flywheel does this! I would NOT get a used one like you have IF it has been improved! The old style ALL eventually have the magnets separate!! OPT

The parts breakdown lists the same flywheel as you have with exposed magnets and doesn't show an updated part number, unlike the replacement for the early 500 Sportsman which went to having the magnets encased in a steel band inside the flywheel to eliminate shattering. You can check with a local dealer who would have more info on this OR just find the same one you have on E-bay. OPT

checking ebay, all are in united states so postage is alot but there are some maybe's.
i have found where the white wire goes to now.
it goes to the stator plate as an earth or ground wire which explains the test results in earlier posts.
still cant find the other coil that should be behind the flywheel though.

The white wire WON'T be a ground wire! Ground wires are BROWN on Polaris atvs. The white wire along with a white/red wire(I believe) go to the exciter coil! If the white wire or white/red shows continuity to ground(earth) then the exciter coil needs to be replaced. Where are you located?? OPT

in behind the flywheel the brown/white and the black/red wires go to the exciting(pulse) coil.
the yellow wire and the yellow/red wires go to the light coil.
the brown goes to earth but the white wire also goes to the same place as the brown??
the other end of the white goes to the cdi i think.
