Question ATV Oila

Just purchased a 2000 425 Polaris Expedition 5 speed. It's only got 1 place for oil so I presume that both the Motor oil & Trans oil are the same..Have heard that this model might need to use a different oil not just normal oil. Any info is appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! Yes,has internal trans gears, takes almost 5 1/2 quarts with filter!! Use either 0w40 Mobil1 OR Polaris 2w50,BUT whatever you use make sure its synthetic! Some guys have used other weights, but just posting what is recommended. OPT

OPT, does it have to be a wet clutch compatable oil? I don't know that much about Polaris engine/tranny set ups, that's why I ask, since a lot of quads seem to require that the oil be JASO or MC rated.

Jaso ma OR md is fine! Does have an internal oiled brake shoe type clutch similar to Honda's old design.(not as crucial about slippage as conventional motorcycle clutch plates) IF it was mine I would run Rotella 5w40 which is also now JASO approved and an API oil only with no friction modifiers. Ran it in my old Nighthawk with no clutch plate slippage. OPT
