More power from sportsman 500
#1
I'd like to get some more power out of my old 99 Sportsman 500 if I could and was told to buy a 500 HO carb and cam for my bike. If I was to go this way would I also need the head from HO motor or if my bikes head would work would it need any mods to work?
Can't I just use my bikes carb and just rejet it?

I did this with my 2000 sportsman 500 you can use stock head. Found used carb on e-bay ,also need bigger manifold and bought new HO cam.You also need bigger adaptor from carb to airbox, and metal braket that mounts carb to frame. You can use stock choke and throttle cables. Was it worth it in short NO after all the time watching e-bay for parts and digging up all the little odds and ends.Yes it does have more power but to me not worth the $$ or time for gain you get.If I was to do it again just buy clutch kit and leave the rest alone. Save up or sell to upgrade to faster machine. Just my 2 cents

Maybe I'll get ahold of Hot Seat Perf. or Aaen and see what they can do for me.
Good advice Bing43, I was told the HO parts would really wake this bike up but it doesn't sound like it from what youv'e said.
Thanks guys.

Is it bottom end or top end speed that your after . I think a full Aaen system will help but like Bing43 said why not just sell and up-grade to a 850 XP . Myself I'm happy with the power of my 500 very seldom do I go over 30 mph up-top and it has enough bottom end for what I do . If I wanted more I'd go 850 XP or Can-Am 800 or 1000 , I'm liking the new Can-Am's .
