Default 2003 700 sportsman dying

Hey Old Polaris Tech. , I'm having some of the similar problems with my 03 700. Debating on whether or not to trade it off or break down and fix. I bought it new and havn't had a hole lot of issues with it. But this is so aggravating. It goes thru this fit not starting and as long as I toggle the kill switch on and off it will eventually start and may run for up to 2 hours before dying and then going thru procedure again. All replies welcomed.

Thanks

$450-$475 plus about 2 to 3 hours of your time. The call is yours, but if the machine is still clean, imo it's worth the effort.Unless you have the itch for a new machine. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...,d.aWM&cad=rja

Default 2003 sportsman 700 ignition prob

Thanks for the info. and the instructions. The cheapest I found so far is 466 delivered to my door step through polaris parts house. 7 - 10 day shipping. A local dealer has one in stock for 580 tax included. no arranty unless installed by Polaris .
Any precautions on the installation.
Thanks again.

Pretty straight forward and the instructions are pretty good. I think I sort of guessed on the ground wire for the magneto and the new wiring under the hood is a little different but it made sense where stuff had to go. Just get everything laid out first to make sure you understand where it is all going to go and you should be OK. I had to trim a litlle plastic off the front to get everyything to fit. (that was part of the instructions)....

Main thing is to buy/or get a good loaner puller from Autozone, etc for the flywheel. You don't want to damage the crankshaft end! The flywheel will be discarded and after that the rest of the install is step by step.

The hardest thing for me i found was routing the left side plug wire. The mounting of the coil is different and the back wire has to go thru a tight area. The directions suggested to remove the boots, it helped alot. Like Old Polaris Tech said " you need the puller" he is so right ! Listen to him, he helped me alot on mine, he also knows his s--t!

Default 03 700 ignition upgrade

Hey I really appreciate everyones input. As I am not a professional mechanic, I think I can handle this project. I feel assured if I have trouble, help is not far away with the knowledge on this forum. I was able to barter with my local polaris dealer. He had kit on hand and I bought it 508 tax included. Hopefully I can get started on it this weekend. Prolly replace a couple cv boots while I'm at it.

Thanks to all,
Croc.

I got started on the ignition upgrade tonite. I'm on the installation part so I replaced the stator and decided to call it a night. Instructions are a little vague but managing. There wasn't any grease or locktite with kit , instructions say to grease stator wiring boot and to both ends of starter drive. I will get loctite tomorow. The new stator has has a ground wire that I attatched to the backside of the nearest stator bolt. I'm assuming this is correct. The wire routing does look to be a headache. Several wires run thru a hold down clamp that is actually part of and behind the gas valvle ****. Input welcomed. Last big question, does pulling flywheel and drive starter effect the timing?

Thanks in advance,
Croc

Ps: Old stator was starting to melt down.
