ok....this is a little off topic I admit as it has nothing to do with Kodiak v Sportsman but just wanted to relay the results of a drag race from last weekend between a bone stock 2000 Explorer 400 and a 2001 Warrior with a pipe.

The Explorer beat the Warrior handily. We were all surprised by how much he beat him. (at least 7-8 lengths)

The reason I bring this up is because the Warrior is pretty close to the Wolverine engine wise and a bit lighter also. Both of these guys are alright riders.....about like the rest of us here.

I know a guy who has a Wolverine with some mods and we are going to get him to line up with the Explorer and see what happens. I'll let ya know. The guy with the Wolverine can ride his **** off so that may make the difference.

It is funny but we will drag race just about anything here....sport....utility....lawnmowers...etc.

I outran both sp 500s (non HO), that I've rode with on a gravel and hard road. It seems the Kodiak has quicker throttle response but I'd say top end is pretty close. I'll admit they can out mud me in certain types of holes, though I've always made it through. A buddy of mine sold his 00 sp 500 because of the way it slid down extreme hills and got a Big Bear. He likes the engine brake in the front wheels now, but he misses that smooth sp ride. Guess you can't have it all...

We went and tried a run on pavement down hill"slight" with the wolverine and rubicon and if we drag from a dead stop the rubicon is a quicker, but the wolverine does have more top end,but after a half of a mile the rubicon is still in front. To the ruby owners, it is faster on top in auto d1 mode then in esp.The wolverine on top end will give any 4 wd a run in good conditions. I was hitting 57.5 mph and the wolverine probly around 58mph +

Thanks for the info Goattrotter that means a SP H.O and 400 Xplorer will smoke a Rubicon.

Goattrotter,
You forgot to mention that on the same stretch of pavement, uphill, I could pass you.
The Rubicon definatly kills a Wolverine from a dead start, but in real world conditions you would never get away from me enough that I couldn't reel you back in.

I hate not having a speedo. I really think I was going more than 1 mph faster than you.
We should go out soon and clock the Wolverine with a car and see just what I'm getting.

Definatly though, the Wolverine is going to give any 4x4 a hard time, no matter what the conditions.

Why would you pay $1800 more in Canada for a Rubicon that will get it's butt kicked by a H.O?

Well, there's more to quading than just drag racing on pavement. The SP HO most likely will beat a Rubicon in a drag, but the Rubicon does have other advantages. (even if I wouldn't own one personally)

Lets not get confused,in real world conditions I would not be letting go of my throttle and asking you if your in the perfect rpm and gear in order to pass me,I think in real world I could gain distance on the wolverine in most conditions because the ruby really does accelerate that much better.

Tim1: What makes you think the ho will kill the ruby?I know you reed the shoot outs, you must have read the speed diff..between the ho and ruby in atv magazine and what they say about the power diff..between the two?And when the Ho gets a for few miles under its belt it will cost the owner money or loose performance"worn belt",while the ruby will be going the same speed. You must have read the post from 3atv about the wolverine hanging in with the ho,So again?Don't forget the wolverine can be fast little bike when in the proper gear and rpm"(even if I wouldn't own one again personally)
