Default 2011 sportsman 500 hot check engine light

I went for a ride on Saturday and was riding a creek bed and some mud puddles creek was about 3-6 inches deep but I was splashing up (going a bit fast to wash some of the mud off) when I got out of the creek I pulled the belt drain plug and air filter drain plug as soon as I got out of it. let it drain let it sit and idle for about 8-10 minutes to dry the belts. all seemed fine until today when I put the key in it to move it to do the oil change as soon as I turned the key on it was flashing at me HOT CHECK ENGINE
HUH? was not even started yet so I did the oil change right there and changed the air filter

still flashing at me what can I check what can I do to try and reset it to see if it goes away with the things that I did do?

already spent $600 replacing the phone that was lost on that 30 minute ride now this!!!

Wash it up first, then clean and use die electric grease on the thermal sensor connector on the cylinder and every thing else that has a connector!!. Disconnect battery and hook back up. If still showing the hot light when key is turned on,could have shorted out the thermal sensor on the cylinder? OPT

I did start it and it ran just like normal except the light on so I was wondering (dont know how) but if dust/dirt got into the carb and making it run rich?? tomorrow I will take the wires off it and do as OPT said and will post on any changes

It's nice to have a temperature gauge I installed one very handy to have and it's nice knowing the exact temperature of the machine . Once I wear this machine out my new one will also have one installed . See my pictures I think there's a picture there take's like a couple hour's to install . And in nearly 12,000 miles I'v had no over heating or therm sensor problems I did install a new fan as the old one was getting loud but it still worked .

finally got a chance last night to go out and unplug the battery let it sit 20-30 minutes hooked it back up and flashing light so today I got to get out and give it a good lookover pulled the seat pulled the left side panel started looking at connections and wires the wire (thinking its the thermal sensor) just barely touched it and it fell apart at the connection (plug came loose and disconnected was full of mud) so I cleaned it up put some electrical grease in it connected it back up and wrapped with gorilla tape hooked up the battery and crossed my fingers. turned key to on position no flashing lights waited about 5 minutes same thing no lights started it and let it idle about 10 minutes no lights so took it for a drive and still no flashing lights so I am 99% positive thats what it was
