07 Sportsman 2 problems
#1
Hi,
New to this forum, hoping you folks don't mind sharing your knowledge.
Just bought a used 07 with only 700KM's, the RPM gauge doesn't budge, it stays at zero all the time, any ideas?
The second issue is that as soon as I let off on the gas I hear a whining noise coming from the front left corner, again any thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
Andre

Thanks!
Yep, 07 Sportsman 500 EFI HO
RPM doesn't budge but everything else works, speedo, odo, trip etc....
I was thinking a cable is loose?
Thanks for the tip about the front left side, I only hear the noise once I let off the gas and it stats to slow down....

welcome to the forum. it could the clutch your hearing that is winning when you let off the throttle form the engine braking. if so alot of them do it as long as it's not too bad. there is no cable for the rpm as it is electronic. maybe the pcik up that senses the rpms is bad. just a couple of thoughts.

So I had a chance to take it for a really good rip tonight. The RPM Gauge starting working! And then it stopped again. Can anyone tell me where to find the sensor? I'm looking for a shop manual for the quad as well.
The whining only seems to happen when I get close to stopping, it doesn't happen at high speeds and I let off the throttle and I'm actually getting used to it just not sure if it is going to blow anything up is all.
Thanks Gents!

Think you're down to a short in the speedo connector or harness. You can trace the wires from the connector down towards the ecm module as this is the main area for shorts or ground problems since all the turning and twisting during steering. Haven't had one with a rpm problem, but have had speedos go blank and come back on,etc. Agree with stendori that you are hearing belt/clutch whine from the engine breaking clutch set up. OPT
