Default Fuel guage info......Missing from the Pod!!

Well I thought I would share my story , It may save someone a trip to the dealer....

My daughter uses my Sportsman 450 (2006) more than me around the yard so when mine gets low on Fuel My Wife's Sportsman is also there to ride(Same model/year).

Anyway, My sat for a few weeks in the garage low on fuel, she parked it with the dispaly flashing and without me telling me, due to the fact she can ride the other one. No big deal right?

Well yesterday I went to fill mine and no guage on the dispaly...Nothing .......no bar grid there!!

Well I have the Polaris Shop Manual and did some checks:
empty should read 5 ohms
full should read 90 ohms

However the manual was not needed, I took a measuring tape (clean one)
and directed into the tank near the fuel sender and within a few seconds the first bar light was on and slowly went up to the full bar mark...

My question is how much clearance is near the fuel level float?
And what is it made of Plastic? cork?

Thanks for your time ,Just thought I would let some viewers know and may save them a trip to the dealer.........Caper...........

Is a gas Guage that important to you. My ATV does not have a gas Guage. I just make sure its not on reserve.

My sled has a gas guage but I find there so inaccurate that its best to just take a peek down the hole once in awhile or use the trip meter as a fuel indicator.

On our 97 Sportsman which also has no gas guage we set the trip meter to zero at fill up and know its time for gas at about 100 miles.

yea but remember he said his wife and daughter rides it and they might not know how far they can go or wouldn't pat attention so a fuel gauge is a nice feature in that case. just my

No it's not that important to me, But paying over $16,000.00 Canadian back in 2006 for two Quads.........I like to keep stuff working and in order....... And if they came with a guage why not have it working if it was just a quick fix anyway........Caper......

I quess so, I have have a bad $85 wheel sensor that keeps my speedo from working but I just think, who cares about about knowing how fast your going down a tail, the trees flying by tell me how fast I,m going.just seems like $100 after HST is not worth it to me.

It would have to be a cheap fix for me to care about a gas guage.

To each his own.

If you let stuff go soon it is just a bag of bolts not worth anything, fix it as it comes vs all at the end if you sell it, nobody want a machine that has a bunch of little "issues".
