Default '96 xplorer help - Again!

I have been working on my rig now for 3 weeks, top end rebuild and odds and ends. I have got the thing running - somewhat. I have pre-mixed my fuel 40:1 still have the oil tube going to the intake but the oil tank is removed, new plug and top end. thing starts great, idles perfect, takes off good - but NO top end power. When I would get near top end (3\4 throttle) it would bog and dang near die. checked timming and it was off, adjusted and it is at 23.5 degrees per the book. now it will go to about (3\4 throttle) wont die but just will not go above that. I have checked the cdi\limiter and all is working right. now I am at that POINT where I cant figure anything else out. I am thinking reeds may be bad? At idle it will spit fuel back through carb havent looked at high rpm. I am at a loss, I am utterly stumped.

H~E~L~P...........

ANY IDEAS would be great at this time.....

when you say it bogs, is it from lack of gas? did you pull the plug out and check it for color to see if it's running lean/rich? the other question i would ask is if you have checked the cluthes and belt? a worn belt or worn out clutch parts will make it not want to top out or seem it has lack of power. just a thought.

I would think that, but it even does it in neutral... will not rev to its potential that is..but everything looks good on the clutch side....looks, i did not tear it apart or anything....

Just pull the black wire from the limiter to eliminate it as a problem.Get a 6mm short bolt same thread pitch as the injector bolt and block off where tube going into intake manifold. If still doing it,check the reeds, if they are ok and are not split or have broken petals, you might have to go into the clutch area, can cause limiting problem if parts are worn. Your last post said compression was 110 pounds with a new top end, this is low also! Should be at least 130-140 or so. OPT

I have pulled the black wire and still same problem. Need to get a bolt. I am going to check compression again. Pulled the reed cage out just awhile ago and fliped the reeds over, cleaned them and they looked good, laying flat. put new gasket on tried again and still same thing, will rev about 3\4 throttle and stop. Not cutting out just wont climb. before my trouble it would scream, very fast revs.

also what am i looking for on the clutch side of things? i had the cover off today looking at it and i cant see anything out of place or damage? like i said i have no clue on the clutch. How do you get that off if you dont have a "special tool"? can you use a puller?

If it just wont climb, then sounds like you need to check the clutches and belt, especially the rear as it usually wears down the ramp buttons and wont pull. Take the belt off and while holding one side of the rear clutch, turn the other side. If you hear or feel a grinding noise instead of of a smooth opening and snapping back, then ramp buttons are worn for sure. OPT

Wait, he said it did it in neutral too. That would eliminate the clutch's right?
