Default Ranger 20hr service?

I just bought a 2012 Ranger 500 EFI this past weekend and when I was leaving the sales man mentioned bringing it back in for its 20hr service. He said they would change all the fluids and make any necessary valve adjustments and so on for $120 + parts (oil/filters). I always do my own fluid changes and have owned three different Polaris’ and have never been told I needed to bring it in for the 20hr service. Is this guy just trying to get more of my money or is there really valve adjustments they do? The dealer is not close, over an 1.5hrs away so I don’t want to make any trips up there that I don’t need to, nor do I care to pay them to change my fluids when I can do it myself and save me $120. What do you guys think? If I do not take it in, how does that affect the warranty?

Just change your oil and filter at 20 hrs, check your air filter, tires,cv boots and that's the majority of whats needed on a "first service"!!!! A lot of dealers try to pad this by changing fluids(if they really do) checking valves(that's not necessary) etc!! We didn't do this at our shop, just the "basic" service. The major service if you read your manual is at 100 hours OR 1000 miles OR as some of our customers did was once yearly on a "full service"depending on how the machine was used!! Which is fine for the transmission, and front and rear gear cases. On somethings I really believe this is too long such as oil changes. I always recommended after the "breakin" 50 hrs just for the reason that two quarts of oil isn't that much as far as cost plus its a lot of hrs if you wait until 100! Don't let em rip you off!! Some of the dealers around us tried the same thing and we ended up with their customers! Plus keep your receipts and service log if you do it yourself so their isn't any kickback because you have the right to do your own service without it affecting the warranty!! This was established years ago on automobile maintenance and such by laws protecting the consumer! Same on recreational and other equipment! OPT
