99 Xplorer 400 Transmission Fluid change
#1
Getting ready to change the transmission fluid on a 99 xplorer 400 and have a few questions. Mine xplorer has the fill plug and not the dipstick.
Do you have to remove the plastic floorboard/cover to get access to the fill plug?
Where is the drain plug located?
Do I fill to top of threads on fill plug?

Drain plug is located on the bottom front of the trans facing the front of the atv! Its a 7/16" small drain plug (in between the trans case bolts). To fill just remove the 9/16" fill plug and fill to the bottom of the threads. OPT

Thanks for the reply. How do you access the fill plug? Looks to me like the only way to get to it is to remove the right side foot board?

Just use a ratchet, a 9/16" OR 14mm socket and an extension. Don't lose the aluminum washer under the plug. You don't have to remove the floorboard! I always used a flex 9/16" socket wrench and reached around the the back of the floorboard. OPT

Thanks for the tip. One more question, if you don't mind? Is there enough room to get the quart bottle of AGL back in there with a funnel? Or do you recommend using a long auto transmission type funnel or one of the hand pumps?
