i have a polaris trailboss 250 1993 i think.i bought it as a non runner and am trying to remove the flywheel.
i had a puller on it for almost a week heated the flywheel hit it heated it hit it tightened it but it stayed on.
i bought a new harmonic balancer thats been on for days tightened it to the max and again heated and hit and put oil on it but its still there.
Am i supposed to line it up anyway???
what on earth am i doing wrong??
please someone help me

excellent the flywheel is off..thankyou people
the magnets are all in pieces and stuck to everything does this mean i need a new flywheel or can i get new magnets.
Also how do i go about checking that the electric bits work like the copper windings with the metal pads on and the other smaller electrical item at the bottem???

Have you got around to finally getting a manual?? Will show all the resistance stats you need to check out the stator and pickup coil(Well worth the cost) ,plus in your other post, I mentioned about checking for physical damage also to the stator which a lot of times happens! I can't remember the specs, hopefully someone has a manual and can help you on the stator check if you don't have the manual! OPT

yes i have a manual i will look tommorow for stats but it does not use same names for items as on here and the pictures are of a different engine and as i am just learning its real hard.
i am not even sure how to check things.i have a decent digital multi meter but not sure how to use it so its almost guessing really.
i think the three copper wound things(larger ones)are the stator and the half moon shaped thing under is the other coil.
the wires to all of these run straight from the electrical items(stator and coil)right up to front of quad so you cant really take it all out to clean.
Ireally appreciate your patients with me i know i must be a pain

The resistance specs are usually shown on the wiring schematic at the back of most of the manuals at the top. It may show tests for either a trigger or pulse coil,or pick up coil(the small black module outside of the flywheel) Also will show which wires for charge coil to test, plus you can test the yellow wires to ground to see if they have shorted out. You can get the small pick up coil separately, but if any problems on the other tests, then a new stator is needed. There are several places to get these and hopefully others can help you where to get the best prices! OPT

Forgot again! You have a small "exciter coil" which is inside the stator area, not outside the flywheel as posted above, but does the same thing as a "pickup" or trigger" coil. Your manual will show resistance specs for the exciter. OPT
