My 2000 sportsmans has been having some issues. started other day when i turned it on and when i put it in high gear reverse light stayed on and it would move forward but bog and bog. so i checked air box found oil and gas in box. cleaned all out got new filter changed oil. bike runs fine in reverse no bogging. low and high it bogs. i unplugged transmission plug that tells engine what gear its in ran again got to about 20 it would bog again. im guessing its a faulty sensor on transmission. would like some input before buying new one to find out that wasnt problem. please help.

 

Possible that the transmission indicator switch(the rear one for H and R) is broken. If shows reverse on speedo,it will limit in forward range. These have small internal plastic levers and can break. If you do replace it,MAKE sure the trans is in neutral or you can break one of the levers(DON"T ask me how I know OPT

 

welcome to the forum. it dos sound like the tranny switch is messses up in some way if the light is coming on in forward.

 

Unplug the switch if you want to ride before you get a new one.
