Default 2 stroke ATV with Modern suspension and Liquid cooled

Hi all,

I currently own a 1998 Polaris Trailboss 250, 2 stroke, ATV. I really like it, but would like something with a modern, independent suspension and liquid cooled. I prefer a 2 stroke only because I am very familiar with the engines. I would be willing to consider a 4 stroke, if it didn't require constant valve adjustments and top ends, like my friends KX 450f. I got spoiled with my Kawasaki KDX 200 dirtbike that had over 7000 miles before It needed a topend.
Thanks again for your help,
Mark

What are you looking to do with the quad? The 450's are race motors that require frequent maintenance. Most ute quads and even a good number of sport quads don't need any where near that type of attention. independent suspension is more of a ute thing, but you do have a Polaris and Honda sport with irs to choose from.

Do they even make 2-strokes with IRS? I haven't heard of any.

i wondered the same thing. a good sportsman 500 is a great irs w/ the engine not needing much except normal service. pretty hard to find a good irs sport machine i would think.

About the only IRS pure sport quad out there is the Outlaw/KTM ,but those are high performance 4 strokes, and may need more upkeep than a sport ute or straight ute quad.

2 strokes are only a thing of the past because manufacturers are making it that way. they love selling you expensive 4 stroke parts

Sounds like the 450f in a quad is the same engine that is in a modern Dirt Bike.. with lots of maintenance. If someone could steer me towards a very reliable sport Quad that is liquid cooled and has a better suspension than my 1998 Polaris Trailboss, it really won't matter if it was a 4 or 2 stroke. probably can't get a new one in this economy. Maybe 2002 and newer. I do like Polaris, but am open to ideas. I have been looking into a Yamaha twin cyclinder 350cc 2 stroke. I used to race dirt bikes, until I shattered my leg in about 45 places a few years back, so I'm not afraid of the power.

Thanks for the input,

Mark

2 strokes are gone thanks to the EPA, not the manufacturers.

I think the last year of polaris's 2smokes were 2003 in a 400. They still made the 250 2 strokes for another couple years I think. They stopped putting them in pretty much everything else in 2002 but in 03 they made a trailblazer with the 400 in it. Other than that it'd have to be a yami or (I think) a zuki for anything newer than 03 for a 2 stroke. It's sad to see them gone but they're making a lot of head way in the 4 strokes now, but it's still hard to beat the way they made power in an atv... imho But I guess I'm kinda partial
