motocross action is the most truthful and detailed magazine ive ever read, not every magazine is the same... go to the site and they'll tell you up front the best mx bike made is not a 4 stroke. my whole point is any of them can make a epa legal 2 stroke, they just choose not to

So you'll take the word of a for profit magazine, but won't read anything from the non-profit organization that has been around for a whole lot longer and done more for motorcycle and atv owners?

So, how the "change" workin out for ya?

And I'm not saying they can't make one. They can. But it seems someone cough*EPA*cough has put up these regulations that made them stop making them, and keeps them from making them.

If you think getting the EPA to change their minds it that easy, then you're also probably waiting for Honda to bring back the 3 wheelers.

they stopped making 2 strokes that were 1st made in the 80's... no **** they wont pass regulations. a direct injected 2 stroke with all the new technology they can... and if the magazine was all about profits, then why arent they pushing 4 strokes like everybody else (including you imo)

So explain the "new" technology that went in to that 2001 Banshee you have.

I agree that the 2-stroke going the way of the dinosaurs is more of a pollution issue than the makers doing away with them. My 250 Xplorer 2-stroke used to keep up with 400 class utilities pretty well. I just got tired of the noise, personally.

manufacturers could care less if they sell you a 4 stroke or 2 stroke part. Neither is more expensive than the other.
It's all about pollution & noise regulations.

Interesting thread... Ive read the mx and dirt bike side...yes we all love the light weight of a 2 stroke(and the cheap/easy top end rebuild).. I personally want a KTM 300 XC with a e-start.. but I really like my 400 EXC (bought it for the button)

Emissions were the problem that led everyone towards 4 strokes.. a few million dollars of development later and we have a 450cc thumper that can beat a 250cc 2 stroke and a 250 thumper that can beat a 125 2 stroke(most of the time).. Not a Big Deal to me.. but they caught on.. Id guess the mfgr's dont have much money left to put into 2 stroke developement.

Im happy we still have Yamaha and KTM (and a few European brands) still making and improving 2 strokes dirt bikes..

not so-

manufacturers are just choosing not to deal with epa regulations.
You really think it costs more for a manufacturer to pay a salary wage to an engineer to design a 2 stroke or 4 stroke engine
