Default 2002 Polaris HO Hub issues

I am in the middle of a torn apart front right hub to find out why it is grabbing when not in 4wd. I drained the fluid that turned out to not be much in their. I was going to star out troubleshooting the easy stuff first by putting new hub oil in. I read on another post someone used type F tranny fluid being it was the same as Polaris hub oil? Anyone second this, because I might actually have this in my garage. Also is ther a thread on all the fluid types and levels to fill a Sportsman 500? What position do you put the hub fill plug at when filling? Thanks...

i have heard where people have done this also and it worked for awhile and then bingo at some point in time they have an issue. polaris for the most part is pretty fussy about the hub fluid so the correct fluid would be the best to use. it should be changed by the book recommendations to prevent a shorter life span form bad amatures. imo

Ok pulled both front hubs apart, put in new round ring thingeys with the three little tabs sticking out and put it all back together with fresh Polaris lube and it still wants to pull to one side. Didnt do it right away but eventually it did. One question? I noticed the light for the 4wheel switch is always on when its in gear and running. Is it suppose to be on just covered by the yellow switch when in the 2wd position?

Did you torque the hub nut to 12 foot pounds only? If too tight can cause it to lock in awd even with the new armature plates. The sliding switch doesn't just cover the light! It actually sends power down to the strut coil when switched to awd mode and the light comes on! OPT

the light would only be on when in awd.

That is a great breakdown of the hub. I didnt adjust the magnet collar thingy but all seems to be working great with my AWD since the new armature plates..Thanks much. Somehow put a few search key words with that post so when people google "hub problems" that link will pop up. It would have been great to have those pics when I started. I wasnt sure what I was getting into when I opened up the hub for the first time!! Thanks again.. Oh yea, I am now one with my hubs!!!
