sorry for the blurry picture

I took this with the Carlisle Black Rock tires 26x9x14 - stock size and the narrowest 9" tires we have.

The front has settled too.

Being extreme - this Touring measures 51" wide at its widest point. That makes this Touring (and I am sure 1000s and 1000s of othger Polaris ATVs) illegal for 50" trails. If an LEO wanted to push it then riding this ATV on a 50" trail here in Utah I could face a fine up to $4000.00

As soon as this thing squats its technically illegal to ride on any 50" trails here in Utah.

And I can tell you that they are pushing this issue more and more.

This is on the Arapeen Trail I rode Saturday, a 50" trail. Several sections of the trail system are 50" trails.
Just because you can fit thru the gate doesn't make you legal.

I broke the law. With these HD2 wheels this thing measures just over 52" wide.

When all the trails open up I will have to run the stock wheels and tighten up the springs.

I kept the 50" trail gates in mind when I went to a larger tire. I had to space the stock rim out 3/8" for it to clear the tie rod ends. With tires that were an inch wider (1/2" wider on each outside measurement) I ended up at 49 3/4". Part of the problem is probably the rims as you mentioned. Still, I would adjust the shocks. It's not going to effect the handling as much as you think. It will actually improve the cornering by stiffening it up a touch. I have the HDs on the front and the 400 lb. X2 springs on the back and it's not a bad ride and I get much better clearance.

You are absolutely right about this. It is a big problem for Polaris in states with width restrictions. I ended up not getting aftermarket rims because of this and had to stay with stock size tires because 9" wide won't fit without spacers/offset rims.

Thor from the atv superstore just tricked out a new 500 and the goal was to keep in under 50", the only way was STI C7 wheels. No other aftermarket rims could keep a 500 under 50" from what he was saying. At least now I know what I could get.

x2 on this as I had said earlier. HD springs are the way to go, but obviously not on a demo unit. Many riders on the polaris forum crank up the preload instead of getting the stiffer springs and none complain of a worse ride.

Have Thor measure it like I did.

I'll be mounting either the Black Diamond XTRs or the Carlisle Black Rocks on the OE wheels or the rest of the year when we are done reviewing tires. We have to keep swapping them around because we have more tires than wheels.

I’m Vice Chairman of the Paiute ATV Trail Committee and the other members who make up the committee are from the BLM, Utah State Parks, US Forest Service, County Commissioners form 4 counties, business owners and private volunteers think it’s important that I comply with the law and set an example.

Yeah, only RI politicians are allowed to break the laws they make.

Here's the latest of 5 arrested in the last year:
RI Senator Ruggerio admits to refusing alcohol test / Video | Breaking News | providencejournal.com | The Providence Journal

As far as Thor's measurements, it wasn't at full load with 1000 mile springs but it was under 50"

That's probably still more than anybody on this forum would have expected you to dole out on a Polaris!

too funny!!!!

Last time I was over at Dougs he asked if I wanted another ATV, possibly a X2 or something else. I told him we'll see how this does for the full year like we had planned.

I washed it before I went over to his place and he was walking around it looking as some of the "upgrades" (scratches, torn floor board, missing reflectors) and I asked him if I should maybe be a little less aggressive with it.

Then he reminded me that he told me to ride it like it was mine and I told him that if was mine I would be harder on it than I am. I hesitate to beat the ever living he!! out of it because it's not mine.

I appreciate and thank both Doug Meyer and Polaris (thanks Donna) for giving me the opportunity to ride this new ATV for a year.

I am enjoying the ride.
