it's just another way to measure a unit of power-
you can also state your 77 hp popo can produce 196198 BTU's / hr (57.5 kwh)
1000 watts (1 kw) = 1.340 hp
To put it into perspective- the average 2000sf house uses about 4 - 7 kwh (depending on how you heat your house)
I use a 6000 watt (6 kw) generator with an 11 hp motor to run my house when we lose power. A 75 gallon electric water heater alone will use 5-6000 watts /hour

all american tractors give power ratings in kw. 1 hp = 746 watts its just a simple electrical equation.
