Just pop the front panel and if you have a cdi module and a coil, then you have the updated Kokusan system!
If you just have only a big coil and says DUCATI,then I wouldn't plan any long trips alone and start saving up to replace with the kit (little over $ 475 estimate) Hopefully you have the Kokusan system as they started replacing the Ducati systems early in March of 2004. OPT

Kit has a flywheel, stator, cdi, coil, regulator/rectifier,jumper wires and instructions! As a couple members have commented the hardest part is to get the flywheel off without damaging the threads on the crankshaft! (just use a good puller and heat!) The rest of it is pretty well covered in the instructions! The kit is #2202603 for the 600. PS It's $475 at Cycle Parts Warehouse(cheaper than most dealers)),others may know of better places, but unless your brother-in-law runs a Polaris dealership wouldn't count on a whole lot cheaper, maybe free shipping?? Also another member "Big600twin" replaced his and hopefully will see this and tell you where he got his! Good luck! OPT

I finally got around to installing the upgrade kit! Installation took ~3 hours, like you mentioned the most difficult part was removing the flywheel, it was REALLY stuck!
The stator wiring harness could have been 1-2" longer and the instructions failed to mention the red power wire out of the new CDI plugged into the previously unused red wire (that was tucked away and hard to find) from the existing harness.
Overall not too bad, given the track record of the OEM setup this should have been recalled and provided by Polaris.
The work is not done however. While I had the right side floor board off I noticed the rear U-Joint on the front drive shaft was bad. How in the heck do you get that shaft out?
Thanks again.

Should have been a recall I agree, but wasn't! Think they swept this under the carpet! If you're talking about the prop shaft from the transmission to the front gear case: Drive out the roll pin through the front u-joint at the front gear case,if you have an impact makes the job easier, after roll pin is out drive the prop shaft back towards transmission until the front u-joint slips off the gear case shaft. Move the front u-joint and shaft over to the left a little then drive the prop shaft forwards until it slips off the transmission shaft. Then you can pull the whole prop shaft out from the front. OPT

Yeah that's the one. So you can slide the shaft back far enough to remove it without pulling the from diff? That is good news, didn't look like quite enough to me!
I am hoping to find some greaseable u-joints to go back with, have any suggestions?
Thanks
