moose is right on it's easy to adjust(sometimes anyways)the rear adjusters to make the springs stiffer, but w/ as much trailhitch weight that your going to have onthe chipper it's not going to matter much w/ the higher settings. as far as the front springs which are really light duty even w/ out the plow set up actually start to sag the front end w/ not much weight at all. most people either put in heavier front springs or spacers to take up the slack. either way a plow will need extra support just front the sheer front end weight.

I don't have a plow yet but I did get the HD springs from Polaris and put them on. I found that the stock springs really let the front of the quad sag a ton when going down hill.

Default hd springs or spacers?

Im looking to either put the polaris hd springs, or spacers on the front of my sportsman. I am noticing that the front looks like its sagging and the tops of the wheels are doing this / \. which fix do you think would pick the front up the most. How much work are they to install, i am guessing either one I use will require taking the spring off? Does it take a special tool to compress the spring??

Thanks cscotter

See Stendori's sticky on home made spring spacers in the expert section.

Default Stendoris sticky on homeade spring spacers

very helpful post on how to remove the front struts. so the 2" pvc coupling lifts it about 2.5". I dont have a coupling here to measure? What do you all think the HD springs would lift the front end? Would the springs compare to this amount of pvc lift? I dont want to overdue it with something homemade that would stress the front 4wd parts. I dont know what the polaris spacers measure, they look like maybee 1.5 inches??

just to clairify, my spacers i made are not 2 1/2" high as that is way to much of a lift w/ out doing the back end. i actually just made some for my 02' i bought and used grey pvc conndutit pipe and cut them down to like 1 3/8" high of a spacers.. if you go to big it will make steering too light and not have as much control. they make ones you can buy that are adjustable w/ 3 positons up tp 1 1/2" i think it was. depending on what year and model of bike is depending on how hard it is to take apart the struts. i found the 02' 500 was extremly easy compared to the 06-08' 800's i didn't even need to compress the springs w/ a strap on the 500. but as you pointed out, either way you need to take off the springs to fix the issue. just as a point for you, they(spring sag) are only going to get worse the more use i found and w/ the plow on it is even harder on the front end. oh, and as long as you do not go extreme on spacers, thre is no extra pressrue onthe forn tend parts to worry about breakage or wearing parts.

The Polaris HD springs I got lifted the front end a good 2" or so. I never really measured it but the ride quality improved drastically. The front tires still have a bit of lean but nothing near where they were before. I found the steering to be a little easier after putting in the HDs.

Here's the tm2 pregressor. You can adjust it to stock, 1", or 2" preload. An article I read said 2" made the front end to light and it wouldn't steer very good. Home made spacers 2" high would probably be too much except for plowing. Pregressor from TM2

When I was looking at plows at the polaris dealer I asked them about the rubber spacers. He said he thought the 800's already had the HD front springs on them. Could there be any truth to this?? I would hate to order them get into it and figure out that I wasnt changing a thing.
The springs I am looking at our from the polaris site. They say that they are 128lbs./inch They sell for $75. plus Polaris just sent me a coupon for $10 off a purchase of $50 too

he would be wrong in saying they had the heavy duty springs. i had the 06 and 08' 800's and they were the same strenght and i used spacers on both. just my
